Project
The proposed Phu Cuong 1 wind farm is located within the intertidal zone along the southeast coastline of Vietnam in the Mekong River Delta region. It is located approximately 180 km south-southwest of Ho Chi Minh City, in the province of Soc Trang along the coastline nearest to the town of Vinh Chau. This area has low exposure to storms and typhoons and is close to electrical demand loads.

The wind farm is expected to provide 1,000 - 2,000 jobs during the construction period and at least 55 jobs during a proposed 20 year operational life. Within related manufacturing industries the wind farm could create up to 850 jobs. Assuming a 173.4 MW installed capacity, the wind farm can produce 490 - 565 GWh electricity per annum and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 4.3 million metric tons over a 20-year life.

Services
DNV GL has prepared a feasibility study for the Phu Cuong 1 Wind Farm, including the Development Impact Assessment (DIA) which describes the Project’s anticipated immediate and long-term developmental impacts at a regional and national level. DIAs are used by project decision makers and other stakeholders to evaluate a given project’s expected impacts on the host country. The following topics are addressed: infrastructure, human capacity building, technology, environment and other items with any significant anticipated development impact.

Benefits
This study identifies the key risks and opportunities associated with the Project and facilitates sound decision making related to future project development activities. Ultimately, the feasibility study will determine the viability of the project.
