Major power failures can have a serious impact on the economy and on critical infrastructure functions. For individual businesses and consumers, the impact is on a smaller scale but by no means less serious. Successfully protecting power systems and related high-voltage equipment against major power failures depends on identifying the most effective protection and control technology for T&D assets. It also requires the most appropriate substation implementation or upgrade solution. With the advances in protection and communication technology in recent decades, the take-off of renewable generation and its impact on the utility infrastructure, such identification and implementation activities are extremely challenging.
In a series of three courses, the fundamentals of power system protection are presented.
The series consists of:

> a three-day session Overcurrent & earth fault protection
> a three day session Differential and impedance protection
